Most people think mulch is just decorative. It looks good, sure - but that's really just a side effect. The real value is what it does underneath. Fresh mulch locks moisture into the soil, slows weed growth, and protects plant roots from temperature swings. One clean install handles a lot of problems at once.

Here's what we were working with - multiple beds wrapping around the house, all bordered by natural fieldstone. The rock edging was already in good shape, so our job was to fill everything in clean and consistent. Dark brown mulch laid throughout, right up to the stone line. No gaps, no thin spots.

The beds along the side of the house had hostas and perennials just starting to push up through the ground. That's exactly when fresh mulch matters most - early in the season before weeds get a foothold. Getting it down now means less hand-weeding all summer long.

What makes a mulch install look sharp is the detail work. Keeping the mulch tight to the stone border, working it evenly around the base of each plant, making sure depth is consistent across the whole run of the bed. That's the difference between a yard that looks finished and one that just looks like mulch was dumped in.

We do mulch installations for properties like this all the time - full bed refreshes, new installs, whatever the yard needs. It's one of the highest-impact things you can do for your landscape without a major investment.
